President's Message - February 2001

Tom Halleran
President

Hi neighbors! Happy New Year! I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season. I would like this message to convey to each of you a sense of new beginning and looking forward. The first issue for discussion is the fact that our utilities cost our Association approximately 28% of our annual budget. This is a significant cost to each of us. Having that in mind, I wonder if each of us could do a little more to reduce our consumption of this expensive and limited resource. Can we try to turn off the lights in rooms not in use at the time? Is it possible to turn most of the lights off when we are leaving the home? May we also be sure to lower the heat level in each of our units when we are traveling for an extended period of time? Each of these steps toward conservation, while small to us individually, can add up to significant savings as a whole over the period of a year's time.

The next thought that I want to consider here is that of the Olympic Games that are just a few days from the One Year Out point. Since we find ourselves in the "center" of The Games, I believe we should begin a small committee that can filter, ask and answer questions about the plans and impacts that we can expect during January, February and March of next year. I don't believe this committee should expect to spend a significant amount of time on this task, but I think it is timely to "look ahead" now and be prepared for the differences that will be in place during The Games.

Well, there it is. Some thoughts that we can entertain now that may very well pay dividends for all of us over the next year. Your thoughts and comments are welcome. Feel free to call me at my home number, 355-7755.

Sincerely,

Tom Halleran, 2202N
